Subject: Public Comments for City Council Meeting 5/24/2022
-EXTERNAL-
Good evening!
City Clerk, please put my written comments in the City Council Meeting agenda tomorrow night .
Long Beach residents are very concerned about what is going on at LBACS... they have been closed most of the year, severely understaffed and the Director uses a fake Facebook account to harass residents. I brought this to the auditor's attention and never received a response. The shelter and Park Director have ignored pleas to improve the shelter. Brent Dennis lied to me and said that Staycee Dains was coming into the shelter when in fact, she was working from home. They are not providing updated information on why dogs are being killed at the shelter or providing public records in a timely manner. One of the most concerning things is that LBACS is not taking in cats...it is listed on the website. So Ms Dains and Mr. Dennis can arbitrarily change the Long Beach charter and make up rules as they go? Please address this immediately in the City Council as residents will not tolerate innocent animals being killed and cats left out on the streets. It is vile that LBACS is telling people to leave cats on the streets so they can starve to death, multiply and get killed by coyotes.
"We are not currently receiving healthy found cats. Please either simply leave them where they are or take them in and care for them if you are able."
