Subject: Funds Transfer Request to the Absolute Best of Long Beach RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Increase appropriations in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department by $2,500, offset by the Eighth Council District One-time District Priority Funds, transferred from the Citywide Activities Department to provide a donation to Long Beach Lesbian & Gay Pride (LBLGP) Inc. to support the 2022 Long Beach Pride Parade and Festival, and; Decrease appropriation in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department by $2,500, to offset a transfer to the City Manager Department.
BACKGROUND:
The City of Long Beach is home to California's third largest Pride festival and parade. Since 1984, the Long Beach Pride festival and parade has brought people together to celebrate our local LGBTQ+ community and worked to educate participants on the importance of diversity in a healthy society. As the battle for acceptance continues worldwide, it is important that we actively advocate for more inclusion and respect for humanity in our communities. To express my support for our LGBTQ+ residents, I am requesting the Council's approval of this fund transfer.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Because of the urgency of this item, a fiscal review was not able to be performed.
STATEMENT OF URGENCY:
Due to this event beginning on July 8, 2022, this item is urgent in nature.
