CITY OF LONG BEACH AMENDI NG THE LONG BEACH
MU NICIPAL CODE BY AMENDI NG SECTION 1. 20 .01 0
ESTABLISHING AND DESIGNATI NG THE POLITICAL
SU BDIVISIO NS OR DISTRICTS OF THE CITY OF LONG
BEACH; AND, ADDING SECTION 1. 20.020 TO MAINTAIN
FINAL ADOPTED MAPS ON AN INT ER NET WEBPAGE
FOR AT LEAST TEN YEARS, PU RSUANT TO THE
ACTIONS OF THE LONG BEACH INDEPENDE NT
REDISTRICTING COMM ISSION
WHEREAS, in 20 18 , the citizens of Long Beach adop ted Measure ODD (Charter section 2500 et seq.) establishing the Inde pendent Redistric ting Commission ("Commi ssion ") to re-draw City Council dis tricts using decenni al Census data as requi red by state and federal law; and
WHE REAS, after a len gthy and trans parent process, on November 18 , 2021 , the Comm ission adop ted a final map with new Cou ncil di strict bounda ries; and WHE REAS, the final map of new counc ilmani c district bounda ries ado pted by the Long Beach Inde penden t Redistri cting Commi ssion became effective on Decembe r 19, 2021; and
WHE REAS, the Commi ssion further directed staff to take actions to rescind and rep lace the former Cou ncil district bounda ri es with the new bounda ri es; and WHE REAS, cons istent with Charter section 2500 , an ordi nanc e amending the Long Beach Mun icipal Code estab lish ing the new bounda ries is presented for adoptio n; and

The foregoing list of Tracts and Census Blocks con stitute the EIGHTH COUN CIL DIST RICT , wh ich is a western di strict that inc lude s the northern portion of the Bixby Knoll s neigh borh ood , spli t at San Antoni o Drive to meet popula tion equali ty, and the neig hborho ods of Param ount, Lind berg, Carmelit os, Addams, Dairy, and Sutter, all on the east side of the- 71 0 Freeway and LA River. West of the 71 0 Freeway and LA River, this di strict inc ludes the neig hborhoods of Coolidge Triangle and Long wood , along with an area above the 405 Freeway that includes the West Basin of the Doming uez Gap Wetlands. This di strict also consis ts of the norther n hal f of the East Basin of Domingue z Gap Wetlands between Del Amo Blvd and the Uni on Pacific Railroad .
