Declare ordinance amending Section 1.20.010 of the Long Beach Municipal Code relating to the boundaries of the City's nine council districts read the first time and laid over to the next regular meeting of the City Council for final reading. (Citywide)
DISCUSSION
Pursuant to the action of the Long Beach Independent Redistricting Commission at its meeting of November 18, 2021, this office has prepared for your consideration the attached above-referenced ordinance. A map showing the proposed boundaries is attached hereto.

CITY OF LONG BEACH AMENDING THE LONG BEACH
MUNICIPAL CODE BY AMENDING SECTION 1.20.010
ESTABLISHING AND DESIGNATING THE POLITICAL
SUBDIVISIONS OR DISTRICTS OF THE CITY OF LONG
BEACH, PURSUANT TO THE ACTIONS OF THE LONG
BEACH INDEPENDENT REDISTRICTING COMMISSION
WHEREAS, in 2018, the citizens of Long Beach adopted Measure DDD (Charter section 2500 et seq.) establishing the Independent Redistricting Commission ("Commission") to re-draw City Council districts using decennial Census data as required by state and federal law; and
WHEREAS, after a lengthy and transparent process, on November 18, 2021, the Commission adopted a final map with new Council district boundaries; and WHEREAS, the Commission further directed staff to take actions to rescind and replace the former Council district boundaries with the new boundaries; and WHEREAS, consistent with Charter section 2500, an ordinance amending the Long Beach Municipal Code establishing the new boundaries is presented for adoption;
22 NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Long Beach ordains as 23 follows:
