-EXTERNAL-

Dear Councilmembers,
I write in support of Agenda Item #10 relating to the permitting and construction of "The Dawson Long Beach" at 2200-2212 East 7th Street. Please vote "yes" to move forward with this residential project, which respresents one small step toward Long Beach's commitment to building 27,000 new housing units in the next 8 years.

Of particular note, this development is all-electric, which means it reduces our reliance on fossil fuels like natural gas. Buildings account for 25% of California's total emissions. I encourage the City Council to study and approve a natural gas ban for all new building construction.

So far, 57 California cities and counties have adopted building codes to reduce their reliance on gas. This includes, most recently, the City of Los Angeles. You can read more about L.A.'s zero-emission policy change here. And for a full list of the jurisdictions, including links to the legislative text, click here.

Regards,
Padric
