Subject: Fund Transfer Request to Support Community Events RECOMMENDATION:
Increase appropriations in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department by $715, offset by the Sixth Council District One-Time District Priority Funds transferred from the Citywide Activities Department, to provide contributions of:
• $200 to Success in Challenges, Inc. to support the 15th Annual Ron Palmer Summer Basketball & Academic Camp taking place from August 9-12, 2022 at Browning High School.
• $515 to the Long Beach Center for Economic Inclusion (LBCEI) to support the Community Health Day event at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park on Saturday, August 20, 2022; and
Decrease appropriations of the Sixth Council District One-Time District Priority Funds in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department by $715 to offset a transfer to the City Manager Department.
DISCUSSION
Ron Palmer Summer & Academic Camp dates are August 9 - August 12 from 8am - 5pm at Browning High School (2180 Obispo Avenue, Long Beach, CA 90804). This year's focus is on fun academics where students will relate math knowledge to basketball games. Math teachers and entrepreneurial mentors will offer engaging and active learning workshops. Snacks, lunch and water are provided. Students will be teamed up and will practice basic basketball fundamentals while improving their overall basketball skills.
The Long Beach Center for Economic Inclusion (LBCEI) is a community development corporation that expands inclusive economic opportunities to build and sustain wealth for all communities in Long Beach. The Community Health Day will take place on August 20th at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park (1950 Lemon Ave, Long Beach, CA 90806). The event will include backpack and food giveaways, and community health resources. The Community Health Day is an opportunity to get the community together, provide resources and fun.
This matter has been reviewed by Budget Manager Grace H. Yoon on August 11, 2022.
FISCAL IMPACT
This recommendation requests the City Manager to provide funds to support the Ron Palmer Summer Basketball & Academic Camp and the Community Health Day event.
The total appropriation increase of $715 in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department will be offset by a decrease of appropriation of Sixth Council District One- Time District Priority Funds in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department. This recommendation is anticipated to require a minimal level of staff hours beyond normal budgeted scope of duties and have a minimal impact on City Council priorities.
