Mayor and Council members,
I am writing to request that you increase funding for the Long Beach Public Library system. Our libraries are significantly underfunded as evidenced by the limited hours of availability as measured both by the restricted days of the week and hours of the day that our branches are open for use by the public. Three locations may currently only be used to pick up reserved materials and the rest of the system is only open for quite restricted periods of time. Public libraries are a resource that should be accessible for easy use by all residents of the City from the youngest to oldest and everyone in between. Please restore and increase the budgetary allotment for this vital public institution.
