Hello Marla,
It might be too late for this, but I was at the council meeting tonight and had to leave at 7pm due to prior commitments. If possible, could you please read my statement during the public comments portion of the JP23 discussion? I would really appreciate it. If prefer to be anonymous (for safety reasons, but I understand if there is no way to make a comment without my name being attached to it.
Thank you!
“If Long Beach makes a concession to approve JP23’s business license, we would be setting a precedent of leniency for any future bars/ restaurants that apply for approvals but decide not to follow any of the rules, requirements, and laws in place in our city. Since their entry into Long Beach, JP 23 made it abundantly clear through their actions (or lack thereof) that they are willing to overlook many of their legal and ethical responsibilities. They have shown themselves to be an enterprise that will act by doing as they want when they want… only to “figure it out” later if there happen to be any repercussions.. If our city desires to continue to grow and attract quality businesses to Long Beach, we must stand firm with the requirements and laws that apply to all. Especially with those entities who boldly demonstrate a repeated willingness to ignore requirements and their legal responsibilities.” - GP
