Subject: E-comment for 9/6 Council Meeting re Long Beach Justice Fund
-EXTERNAL-
Dear Mayor and Council Members -
As of July 2022, there are over 2,164 residents in the Long Beach-Lakewood county subdivision facing deportation. In the last 90 days, 162 deportation cases were filed against residents and families, and only 25 of them have legal representation.
My name is Sabrina Rivera, I live in District 2 and I grew up in north Long Beach. My family still resides there. I am also an attorney and I direct an immigrant rights nonprofit organization in Orange County. I am writing to share my support of the city of Long Beach allocating $1 million in funding to the Long Beach Justice Fund to provide, free, comprehensive immigration support to immigrant residents facing deportation and other immigration proceedings. This would benefit several members of my immediate family and many others across the city.
Please vote to allocate more resources for immigrant and refugee families facing physical separation because of unjust immigration laws and policies.
Sabrina Rivera
District 2 Resident
