RESOLUTION NO.
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF LONG BEACH PROCLAIMING THE
TERMINATION OF A LOCAL EMERGENCY RELATING TO
MONKEYPOX VIRUS (MPV)
WHEREAS, Section 8630 of the California Government Code and Chapter
2.69 of the Long Beach Municipal Code require the City Council to proclaim the termination of a local emergency at the earliest possible date that conditions warrant; and WHEREAS, the C ity Council adopted Resolution No. RES-22-0135 on August 9, 2022 , proclaiming that a local emergency, as defined in Government Code Section 8630 and Section 2.69.020 of the Long Beach Municipal Code , existed with respect to the threat of a monkeypox virus (MPV); and
WHEREAS, there has not been a large segment of the population affected by the monkeypox virus, that the cases identified to date have been mild, and the need for resources to respond to the outbreak is decreasing; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Government Code Section 8630 and Chapter 2.69 of the Long Beach Municipal Code, the City Council desires to proclaim the termination of such local;
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Long Beach resolves as follows:
Section 1. That the proclamation of a local emergency (as defined in Government Code Section 8630 and Section 2.69.020 of the Long Beach Municipal Code) relating to monkeypox virus in the C ity of L ong Beach established by Resolution No. RES-22-0135 is hereby terminated.
Section 2. Resolution No. RES-22-0135 is hereby rescinded.
Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption RES-22-0200
