Subject: Funding for Additional Temporary Pickleball Nets at Billie Jean King Tennis Center
RECOMMENDATION:
Increase appropriations in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department by $1600, offset by the Third Council District One-time District Priority Funds transferred from the Citywide Activities Department to provide a donation to Bridge the Gap Tennis Management at the Billie Jean King Tennis Center for the purchase of four temporary pickleball nets.
Decrease appropriations in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department by $1600 to offset a transfer to the City Manager Department.
INTRODUCTION:
As pickleball continues to grow throughout Long Beach it is important that the city support opportunities for residents to exercise and build community through recreational competition. The Billie Jean King Tennis Center is expanding its ability to accommodate the interest in pickleball, and so it is appropriate for the City of Long Beach to assist with funding for temporary nets that can be used for pickleball.
FISCAL IMPACT:
No fiscal impact has been conducted due to the time sensitivity of the item.
STATEMENT OF URGENCY:
This funding is sought as soon as possible.
