Subject: Tonight's agenda item #33 (Community Hospital homeless shelter)
-EXTERNAL-
Many of the neighbors in the Community Hospital neighborhood who had planned on attending tonight’s council meeting and addressing the council in person regarding agenda item #33 are unable to attend due to COVID or flu. I myself am now quarantined due to exposure to COVID.
I hope upon hope that none of us neighbors develop any health complications. As you may be aware, ironically, there are no hospitals or emergency services here on the Eastside of Long Beach.

-EXTERNAL-
Unbelievable, let's not kid ourselves,Molina knew exactly what the goal for the Community Hospital was going to be when they started this charade of making the effort of putting this hospital back in use.as a hospital, open and then closing in 6 months, and now converting it into a homeless shelter and, may I add, without proper notice to the neighborhood on 15th and Termino.
City of Long Beach is ignoring the destruction of property, decrease of property values, the condition of alcoholism and drug addition that comes with the homeless and the danger to persons to be attacked without provocation.
The persons with Molina are also astute and they know that millions can be be made from the homeless
programs in which cities and states pay for their participation.
Where are the clinics to help those that are sick, the programs to help persons to get back to work, what security is going to be provided, what type of personnel is going to work at the hospital?
You can see the decay of cities, states and government when programs like this are put into play and no one is held accountable.

Subject: City Council Meeting 12/13/2022 -Item #33: Community Hospital
-EXTERNAL-
Re: City Council Meeting, 12/13/2022, Item #33:
I live in the 2nd District, but Community Hospital is three blocks from my daughter’s home. She and her wife have been, and will continue to be, foster parents and are hoping to adopt at some point. We are quite concerned about the idea of bussing in 125 homeless people every day three blocks from their home and a mere four blocks from an elementary school on 14th and Termino.
Theirs is a safe and peaceful neighborhood and, instead of finding a facility in a more commercial area to house the homeless, the City has very privately planned to change its character overnight. There has been NO notice or opportunity for community input in this decision. How is that possible?
Why would the City choose to disrupt, and possibly endanger, a neighborhood that has not been plagued with the problems that accompany such a large homeless population? (I live one block from Bixby Park. There are a lot fewer homeless people living there and our neighborhood expects and accepts the various people strolling through & shouting the F word & other obscenities at the top of their lungs while arguing with someone who isn’t there, as well as the stolen bikes, the occasional verbal attacks, etc. It is part of the urban living WE have chosen.)
The Community Hospital area has not experienced this behavior and yet the City is prepared to introduce it more than twofold. Imagine someone walking down Termino shouting obscenities to the wind as he passes the school while the children are on the playground. Would that be okay with you if it were YOUR children? How long before we’ll see homeless encampments surrounding Community Hospital? Why not go to where the Homeless are already located and establish shelters rather than deliver 125 people a day to an area that had not yet experienced such issues?
Additionally, it seems the neighborhood was not notified of the contract and are wondering if there’s been a violation of the City’s open meeting ordinances. We will seek to determine that and will secure legal assistance if we find such violations have occurred.
Finally, it’s easy to encourage people to “support the homeless” when you’re talking about someone else’s neighborhood. Despite motivations, it certainly seems that the city is pulling a fast one on a middle class neighborhood that it wouldn’t be attempting in a wealthier area. Stop and think how you would feel if the City Council was pulling this three blocks from YOUR home and four blocks from your children’s school.
Maybe instead of spending money on more frivolous activities, let Naples pay for their own boat parade and Belmont Shores their own Christmas parade and serve your tax paying constituent by coming up with less intrusive & dangerous solutions.
Thank you for your attention.

To who it may concern...
I live 0.3 miles away from the community hospital.
I know , my opinion doesn't count or not important @ all.
However all I want to say, I expected more from my beautiful city.
The decision, to transfer the hospital, to a Homeless shelter 😡😡😡, was made in October in a very hush hush, and sneaky way.
Those who made the decision, should be shamed of themselves.

I fully support using this as a shelter. People check in at MSC and are bused to and from the shelter. They won't be " contaminating" your neighborhood.
