Subject: Funds Transfer Request to United Cambodian Community to Support Long Beach Sankranta 2023
______________________________________________________________________ RECOMMENDATION:
Increase appropriations in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department by $50,000 offset by the Sixth Council District One-time District Priority Funds transferred from the Citywide Activities Department to provide a contribution to the United Cambodian Community to su pport Long Beach Sankranta 2023; and,
Decrease appropriations in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department by $50,000 to offset a transfer to the City Manager Department.
Discussion
The United Cambodian Community (UCC) in collaboration with Long Beach City College and the Council District 6 Office, is hosting Long Beach Sankranta 2023 on April 1, 2023 at Long Beach City College’s Pacific Coast Campus. UCC is a social service organization that provides culturally competent social services to the Cambodian community in central Long Beach. UCC has provided health equity, youth enrichment, community integration, and economic inclusion services.
Sankranta is the new year celebration that is observed in Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, and some parts of India. Long Beach Sankranta 2023 serves to honor and recognize our city’s diverse communities that celebrates Sankranta . The public is invited to enjoy the Sankranta celebration and festivities through the arts, traditions, and cultural learning. This will be the first Sankranti celebration in Long Beach.
FISCAL IMPACT
No Financial Management review was able to be conducted due to the urgency and time sensitivity of this item.
STATEMENT OF URGENCY
This urgent item is being submitted through supplemental agenda to allow for timely funds processing.
