ORDINANCE NO. ORD-23-0013
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF LONG BEACH REPEALING ORDINANCE NO.
ORD-20-0017 AND CHAPTER 8.110 OF THE LONG BEACH
MUNICIPAL CODE
WHEREAS, on April 14, 2020 the Long Beach City Council responded to the emerging COVID-19 pandemic by protecting workers by requesting the development of a COVID-19 Paid Supplemental Sick Leave Ordinance; and WHEREAS , Ordinance No. ORD-20-0017 was adopted on May 19, 2020 adding Chapter 8.110 to the Long Beach Municipal Code and thereby establishing COVID-19 Paid Supplemental Sick Leave; and
WHEREAS, Long Beach Municipal Code Section 8.110.130 provides that the City Council will determine the sunset date of Chapter 8.11 O; and WHEREAS , the federal COVID-19 Paid Supplemental Sick Leave, provided under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, provided paid supplemental sick leave to some workers while other workers remained without this important benefit; and 19 WHEREAS , the City's COVID-19 Paid Supplemental Sick Leave expanded 20 eligibility to this important benefit; and
21 WHEREAS , the Federal paid leave under the Families First Coronavirus 22 Response Act expired on December 31, 2020; and
23 WHEREAS , in September 2020, the State established its COVID-19 Paid 24 Supplemental Sick Leave to protect workers, families and communities in the continuing 25 COVID-19 pandemic ; and
26 WHEREAS, California 2022 COVID-19 Paid Supplemental Sick Leave 27 continued this state protection through December 31 , 2022; and 28 WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 8.110.130 of the Long Beach Municipal EWM:ag A23-00254 (1/30/23)

1 1 Code, the City Council sunset the COVID-19 Paid Supplemental Sick Leave set forth in 2 Chapter 8.110 of the Long Beach Municipal Code on February 21, 2023; 3 NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Long Beach ordains as 4 follows:
5 Section 1. Ordinance No. ORD-20-0017 and Chapter 8.110 of the Long 6 Beach Municipal Code are hereby repealed.
7 Section 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the passage of this ordinance by 8 the City Council and cause it to be posted in three (3) conspicuous places in the City of g Long Beach, and it shall take effect on the thirty-first (31st) day after it is approved by the 10 Mayor.
