EARTH MONTH KICK-OFF Dave Shukla [email protected] Is it? 4/4/2023
21. (23-0312) Recommendation to receive supporting
documentation into the record and conclude the public hearing and consider one third-party appeal by the Westside Business Association of Long Beach (APL23-005);
Adopt resolution adopting and certifying a Mitigated Negative Declaration (IS/MND 01-23) and making findings of fact related thereto, and adopting a Mitigation Monitoring and Reporting Program; and
Deny the appeal of the Planning Commission's decision and approve two (2) Conditional Use Permits (CUP21-010 & CUP21- 011) to operate a trucking use on two (2) properties located at 1711 Harbor Avenue and 1515 West 17th Street that total 4.85 acres in size in the General Industrial (IG) Zoning District. (District 7)
Kirk Davis [email protected] I urge you to uphold the appeal by the WBALB and deny the conditional use permits for this project. Long Beach should not be pushing for new supply chain
warehousing and container storage within or near city
limits. The overburden of pollution throughout the port trucking zones is a detriment to community health and
city infrastructure. The commitment and promise to a
clean, healthy, and resilient city should always be a
priority, and not a "we are still working on it" response.
More work should have been done with the ongoing
implementation strategies of LUM 50,51, and 52. The
community should always be engaged in expressing
their needs and protecting their health.

PUBLIC COMMENT Dave Shukla [email protected] April 4th is an important date in American history. On this date, 56 years ago, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. gave one of his most famous and enduring speeches at the
Riverside Church in New York City, where he
repudiated the Vietnam War and the three strands of
American racism, American militarism, and American
capitalism that tied it together in 1967. One year later to the day, 55 years ago, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated while in Memphis supporting Municipal
Sanitation Workers on strike there, some of whose lives had been taken by the very trucks on which they were
unfairly employed. It will not be until 2027, when
government records of the investigation into his murder are finally unsealed, that any further clarity on the
motives or means or methods of Dr. King's assassin(s)
will be added to the public record. Yet come then, as
now, or as further back in 1967 or 1867 or even 1787,
we can ask:
Am I not a man and a brother?

28. (23-0321) Recommendation to continue the local emergency caused by conditions or threatened conditions of homelessness within the City of Long Beach, which if not corrected, constitute an imminent and proximate threat to the safety of persons and property within the City; and
Receive and file an update on the emergency declaration and associated activities and provide any additional direction to City staff regarding the emergency. (Citywide)
Leslie Davis [email protected] I'd like to suggest that you share the results from the Survey so that the public is kept informed how the City plans to implement the suggestions and the facts that
you have gleaned. The emergency response to this
issue seems too small for the size of the problem. From an organizational perspective it doesn't appear that you have a dedicated coordinator and laser focused team
solely dedicated to this singular issue. Have all parking lots and vacant properties been tapped for temporary
residential solutions? Can you please also explore
setting up tents for temporary housing while you explore options for permanent quarters? The first objective is to get the homeless off the streets. I would also
recommend that you publish a Flyer with a list of
options for the homeless and hand them out. Personal
connections need to be made with people on our
streets - - don't expect that they have phones and can
get on the Internet.
