-EXTERNAL-
Dear City Council Member,
Please approve the renaming of a section of Channel View Park to Ashlee's Park in memory of Ashlee Almond.
While prior to her tragic death in 2014, Ashlee Almond was not notable in city politics or civic affairs, Her name has become a rallying point for charitable contributions and grassroots activity in helping the most vulnerable of Long Beach on a one-to-one basis. She is an inspiration to her father, Long Beach Police Officer, Richard Almond's day-to-day passion as a Quality of Life Officer. Her name is synonymous with Aslee's Fund for the Homeless. Hundreds of thousands of dollars of private donations have been raised in support of hands-on constructive help to get homeless individuals off the street and on to leading a positive life.
In May of last year, I sponsored a Concert in the Park in memory of my wife, Anna. Ashlee's Fund was one of her favorite charities. Over 2,300 people were in attendance and over $5,500 in donations was raised because the citizens of Long Beach honor the memory of Ashlee Almond and they believe in the work that Ashlee's Fund does.
It is truly fitting to honor Ashlee Almond and the promise that her name represents to the citizens of Long Beach.
Please vote YES on naming a portion of Channel View Park, Aslee's Park.
Thank you!
