Dear Mayor Richardson and Councilmembers,
The Long Beach Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation plays an active role in maintaining a healthy coast. Whether it is removing trash through beach cleanups, reducing urban runoff through the Ocean Friendly Gardens program, or our advocacy to reduce single-use plastics and styrofoam, our many volunteers work hard towards our goal of a clean and healthy coastline that is accessible for all.
Unfortunately when it comes to sewage spills, there is little we as citizens can do other than advocate for accountability. For this reason we would like to lend our support to Councilmember Duggan’s request to assess the impacts of sewage spills, report those responsible, and pursue avenues for compensation to the city and people of Long Beach.
It is our hope that any funds obtained would be used to prevent future spills and mitigate their impacts. On behalf of our Chapter Executive Committee, thank you for considering the health of our coastal environment.
Regards,
Kai Craig

Please include us as staunch SUPPORTERS of Councilwoman Duggan proposal to LB:
“…requests the City Manager work with the Regional Water Quality Control Board and other enforcement agencies to report any Clean Water Act violations. Lastly, this action requests the City Manager work with the City Attorney to bring back options to seek compensatory damages and reimbursements related to these sewage spills.” !
Blessings from us and Regards,

Clean up our beach!!! Every Councilmember should be on board with this proposal, after all the name of our city is, LONG BEACH!
The livelihood and vitality of our city is all based around our beach, so when the cities who are upstream from us do not manage their sewage and waste we are left with the devastating effects, unacceptable!!
The amount of trash and waste piling up on our shore is astronomical! If you are a Council Member I ask you, each and every one of you, when was the last time you walked along the shores of our beach? It is an honest question, and each one of you should feel a need and a duty to do that and to make sure the city you represent and speak for reflects the standards and cleanliness you would expect in your own backyards!
Please support Coucilmember Duggan's proposal!
Thank you,
Jenean Cerami
