Dear Mayor Richardson and City Council members,
My letter is in opposition of the proposed ordinance for sidewalk vendors, agenda # 16
You have many restaurant owners who spend thousands of dollars designing, getting permits, building, many getting liquor licenses, and then waiting several months and longer as they prepare to open. It is not an even playing field to allow food trucks to simply park and open. We want our business corridors to thrive don’t we? My main concern has always been the health and safety of the public. My fears were realized last week as I drove by Redondo & Anaheim, stopping at the light. On the corner was a commercial sized grill covered by pop up tents. At one time I’m sure they were red but were now filthy and black. On the tables were large plastic bins with all the accoutrements to make tacos. The gentleman was filling them, no gloves and whatever missed a bin, he hand picked off the table and put it back in the bin. To say it was gross is an understatement. How is the health department going to manage checking all of these food trucks and bikes with food carts when they barely can keep up with checking on restaurants! This is a can of worms and I urge you to error on the side of keeping the public safe!
Thank you for your time on this matter.
