RECOMMENDATION:
Recommendation to authorize City Attorney to pay sum of $399,000.00, in full settlement of a lawsuit entitled Joel Reyes, et al. v. City of Long Beach, Los Angeles Superior Court Case No. BC703737.
DISCUSSION
Plaintiffs' vehicle was struck by a LPBD vehicle on June 14, 2017, and Plaintiffs allege that they suffered significant personal injuries as a result of the collision.
Following extensive negotiations, Plaintiffs agreed to accept $399,000.00 - inclusive of costs and fees - as a full, global settlement of this dispute.
The settlement was discussed in closed session, and approved, by the Government Operations and Efficiency Committee (Attorney/Client) on May 23. 2023.
SUGGESTED ACTION:
Approve recommendation.
