To: Honorable Mayor and Council
From: Councilmember Roberto Uranga, 7th District
Subject: District 7 Transfers of Funds in Support of Community Events RECOMMENDATION:

Increase appropriations in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department by $5,500, offset by the Seventh Council District One-Time District Priority Funds, transferred from the Citywide Activities Department, to provide support for the following:

2. $500 to Wild West Women, Inc., in support of the Women’s Fair;

3. $1,000 to Century Villages at Cabrillo, in support of the Written in the Stars Gala;

4. $500 to the Long Beach Century Club in support of the Mayor’s Trophy Charity Golf Tournament; and,
Decrease appropriations in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department by $5,500 to offset transfers to the City Manager Department.

DISCUSSION:

The Uptown Jazz Festival is currently in its 12th year and remains a well-attended event that thousands of Long Beach families and community members attend. This event offers a significant opportunity to conduct outreach to the Uptown community around the issues of health and economic recovery. By contributing, Long Beach residents are available to come to the park and enjoy community, music, community resources, vendors, a kids' area, and more.

The Long Beach Suffrage 100 is an active organization that helps educate our community on the history of suffrage in California and the United States. This July will commemorate 100 years since the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) was first proposed C-2
in Congress. In honor of this remarkable historical date, the Long Beach Suffrage 100 will be hosting a Women’s Fair on July 18th, 2023 at the Long Beach City Hall Plaza.

Century Villages at Cabrillo offers services to support the needs of over 1,500 formerly unhoused families, Veterans, seniors, and individuals who need additional support to remain in housing, meet their personal goals and thrive. The Written in the Stars Gala will raise funds in support of the mission of Century Villages at Cabrillo.

The Long Beach Century Club is a non-profit organization that supports Long Beach youth who are involved in sports. Since 1957, the mission of the Long Beach Century Club has been to support these athletes and teams when they require financial assistance to enhance program growth and the opportunity to compete. This support allows individuals and teams to compete around the globe, often resulting in national and world championships. By contributing to support this event, it will help augment their program support in areas such as local amateur sports, educational institutions, and the Special Olympics.

This matter has been reviewed by Budget Analyst Joe R. Guerrero on June 2, 2023.

FISCAL IMPACT:

This recommendation requests the City Manager to provide contributions of $3,500 in support of the Uptown Jazz Festival, $1,000 to Century Villages at Cabrillo in support of the Written in the Stars Gala, $500 to Wild West Women, Inc. in support of the Women’s Fair, and $500 to the Long Beach Century Club in support of the Mayor’s Trophy Charity Golf Tournament. The total appropriation increase of $5,500 in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department will be offset by a decrease of appropriation of Seventh Council District One-time District Priority Funds in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department. The requested action is anticipated to require a minimal level of staff hours beyond the normal budgeted scope of duties and expected to have minimal impact on existing City Council priorities.

SUGGESTED ACTION:

Approve recommendation.
