RE: ROSEMEAD/LAKEWOOD BOULEVARD COMPLETE STREET & BUS RAPID TRANSIT CORRIDOR
PROJECT
Dear Ms. Pfeffer,
On behalf of Streets for All I am pleased to submit this letter to express my support for the Rosemead/Lakewood Boulevard Complete Street & Bus Rapid Transit Corridor Project.
Transforming this corridor into a vibrant, multimodal Complete Street will undoubtedly advance regional, statewide, and national goals related to climate and environmental resilience, regional mobility, community and economic development, and improving safety for vulnerable road users.
This 26-mile, north-south corridor traverses 13 cities/communities and facilitates convenient access to major points of interest such as the Angeles National Forest and the San Gabriel Mountains, multiple transit lines (e.g. Foothill Gold Line, Eastside Gold Line, West Santa Ana Branch, and Metrolink), the Kaiser Permanente Regional Medical Center in Downey, the Long Beach Airport, the Long Beach Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Cal State Long Beach, and the Pacific Ocean to name a few. Preliminary analysis estimates over 13,000 boardings and new transit trips with strong growth potential if local cities develop mixed-used, transit-oriented communities including new job/work centers and much needed housing along the corridor.
I applaud the alliances currently being formed and the strategic approach to elevate this project as a high priority at the county, State and federal levels. This degree of synergy and local leadership illustrates the united front required to streamline the planning and implementation process.
I understand and fully recognize this project is in the early planning stage and subject to thorough public engagement, stakeholder collaboration, and approval from each respective city in the corridor. Nevertheless, I look forward to this project becoming a reality and I stand ready to support however possible. Thank you for your attention to this significant project.
Sincerely,
Michael Schneider

The full 26-mile corridor travels north-south from the Angeles National Forrest to the Pacific Ocean and traverses 13 citi es/communities within the San Gabriel Valley and Gateway Cities sub-regions of Los Angeles County. The Project will facilitate convenient access to significant points of interest, such as:
• San Gabriel Mountains National Monument
• Multiple mass transit lines:
o Metro Foothill & Eastside Gold Line
o Metro West Santa Ana Branch
o Metrolink’s OCL, 91/PVL, & SBL
o Amtrak Pacific Surfliner
• Whittier Narrows Regional Recreation Area
• Kaiser Permanente Regional Medical Center in
Downey

The Project will also enable local cities to develop mixed-use, transit-oriented communities and economic empowerment zones along the corridor, which greatly contribute to regional, statewide, and national goals related to housing, mobility, climate and environmental sustainability, economic resilience, and safe conditions for vulnerable road users.
2023 Federal Funding Request Rosemead/Lakewood Complete Corridor Project This project represents a strategic yet holistic approach to thoroughly embrace a multimodal future. Nancy PfefferExecutive DirectorGateway Cities Council of Governments16401 Paramount BoulevardParamount, CA 90723 RE: | SUPPORT| Rosemead/Lakewood Boulevard CompleteStreet & Bus Rapid TransitCorridor Project Dear Ms. Pfeffer,
As a place-based community organization dedicated to realizing a more sustainable, equitable, and livable SanGabriel Valley, ActiveSGV is pleased to support the Rosemead/Lakewood Boulevard Complete Street & BusRapid Transit Corridor Project. This project would transform the corridor into a vibrant, multimodalCompleteStreetand advance regional, statewide, and nationalgoals related to improving safety for people who arewalking, biking, skating and scooting, reducing GHG emissions, reduction of VMT, environmental resilience, regional mobility, community and economic development.
ActiveSGV was formed in 2010 by a group of residents, public health activists, and community leaders toaddress an unmet and critical public health need in our region – grassroots support for livable, “complete”streets that provide healthy transportation alternatives, promote physical activity, and create a foundation forhealthier communities. Over the past decade ActiveSGV’s team of staff organizers, board members, volunteersand supporters has dedicated thousands of hours to address this issue.
This 26-mile, north-south corridor traverses 13 cities/communities and facilitates access to major points ofinterest such as the Angeles National Forest and the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument, multiple transitlines (e.g. Foothill Gold Line, Eastside Gold Line, West Santa Ana Branch, and Metrolink), the KaiserPermanente Regional Medical Center in Downey, the Long Beach Airport, the Long Beach Veterans AffairsMedical Center, Cal State Long Beach, and the Pacific Ocean, among others. Preliminary analysis estimatesover 13,000 boardings and new transit trips with strong growth potential if local cities develop mixed-used,transit-oriented communities including new job/work centers.
Given the many benefits of safer, complete streets, and the increasing numbers of pedestrian fatalities acrossCalifornia, especially in lower-income communities of color, ActiveSGV strongly supports this request as animportant and meaningful step towards realizing a more sustainable, equitable, and livable region. If you haveany questions regarding this matter, please contact me [email protected].
