CITY OF LONG BEACH COUNCIL MEETING 7/11/2023
Dear council members:
It is my privilege to talk to you here in this beautiful city of Long Beach. My name is Laila Asmi, and I am from Pakistan. I moved to Long Beach before Covid and don't want ever to leave. This is home. I love diversity, the culture, and the arts of this city. I love how music and art are fostered and promoted and loved by the residents and the government equally.
Today I am here to introduce Fortify Education Foundation, a nonprofit organization aimed at eradicating malnutrition in underprivileged schools in Pakistan. Pakistan has the highest prevalence of malnutrition in children even in the developing countries. To date we have provided over 300,000 meals to students to help nourish their minds and bodies so they can focus on studies. No child should have to choose between food and education. No child should have to drop out and work for meals.
For the first time in Southern California, a Pakistani nonprofit is holding a multi-cultural music and art benefit Gala in the museum of Latin American Art to raise funds and awareness. In line with the culture of Long beach the gala is focused on promoting the arts of our Latin Americans, black African Americans, and Asian cultures. We are honoring the very spirit of our great city while raising funds for FEF so we can continue to provide meals to these young minds.
I am here to ask for your guidance and support for this event on .17th September 2023. CALB, the iconic cultural alliance of Long Beach is endorsing us, and we are proud to say they are our community sponsors.
