Funds Transfer Request to the African American Cultural Center of Long Beach’s Evening of Jazz
RECOMMENDATION:
Increase appropriations in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department by $250, offset by the Ninth Council District One-time District Priority Funds transferred from the Citywide Activities Department to provide a contribution to African American Cultural Center of Long Beach in support of their An Evening of Jazz event; and, Decrease appropriations in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department by $250 to offset a transfer to the City Manager Department.
Discussion:
On June 30, 2023, the African American Cultural Center of Long Beach will host “An Evening of Jazz” and its history in Long Beach. It will feature the music of the Legendary Alvin Hayes, Jr and his band, Z Scott on Violin and Alex and Charles Julian Fearing. The Expo Center will be transformed into a 1950s Jazz Lounge. Guests will listen to the intoxicating music of local greatness. The African American Cultural Center of Long Beach will recognize John Malveaux with a Lifetime Achievement Award. He has spent his life introducing great talent in all music genres and put a national spotlight on musicians within and brought famous talent to Long Beach. It will be an event soaked in local African American music and congeniality.
This matter has been reviewed by Budget Analyst Joe R. Guerrero on June 28, 2023.
SUGGESTED ACTION:
Approve recommendation.
