RE: ProposedFiscal Year2024Budget–SupportAgendaItem16–August15, 2024Agenda DearHonorableLongBeachMayorandCityCouncilmembers,
IamwritingtoexpressmysupportfortheproposedinvestmentsinDistrict6outlinedintheProposedFiscalYear2024Budget.Theseinvestmentsholdgreatpromiseforourdistrictanditsresidents,offeringnumerousbenefitsthatwillenrichourcommunity.

Theallocationof$3,700,000towardstheMLKJr.ParkMasterPlanning,RestroomRenovation,andCriticalRepairstotheCommunityCenter,andtheproposedrenovationofMacArthurPark,withaninvestmentof$400,000,arevitalstepstowardsenhancingourlocalparkstobetterfosterawelcomingenvironmentforallandwillundoubtedlyrevitalizeourcherishedcommunityspace,providingasafeandenjoyableenvironmentforfamiliesandindividualsalike.Additionally,theone-timeinvestmentof$90,000intheHoopsAfterDarkSummerSeasonwillprovideouryouthwithanengagingandsafeplatformforrecreationandskill-building.

Furthermore,theCambodiaTownGrandEntrance,supportedwith$1,000,000,willserveasasymbolofourdedicationtocelebratingthediversitythatenrichesourdistrict.Similarly,theallocationof$500,000forVIPRecordsPlacemakingandSignageshowcasesthecommitmenttopreservingourlocalculturalheritage.Additionally,the$25,000increaseforMartinLutherKing,Jr.Paradewillundoubtedlycontributetothesuccessofthissignificantevent,celebratingthevaluesofunityandequalitythatDr.Kingstoodfor.

Finally,theallocationof$100,000foraconsultanttooverseethecreation,management,andoversightofculturalcenterswillensureaneffectivedevelopmentofculturalcentersthatfostersartisticandculturalexpressionthatreflectsourcommunity.

Iamconfidentthattheseinvestmentswillcontributesignificantlytothegrowth,vibrancy,andwell-beingofourdistrict.
