Councilmembers,
Action Item 1.1 from the 2020 Safe Streets Long Beach Plan says that we will create a position for and hire a Vision Zero Coordinator. Why hasn’t this happened? Why is it not in the proposed 2024 budget?
In the most recent Vision Zero update, we learned that we are getting even further from Vision Zero despite efforts from our city staff. There are improvements in the works, but if we are serious about reaching zero traffic deaths by 2026, we need someone who works for the city to focus on this issue. We are more than halfway to 2026 with much work left to do. Please fund the Vision Zero Coordinator position.
