RE: Proposed Fiscal Year 2024 Budget – Support Agenda Item 16 – August 15, 2024 Agenda Dear Honorable Long Beach Mayor and City Councilmembers, I am writing to express my support for the proposed investments in District 6 outlined in the Proposed Fiscal Year 2024 Budget. These investments hold great promise for our district and its residents, offering numerous benefits that will enrich our community.

The allocation of $3,700,000 towards the MLK Jr. Park Master Planning, Restroom Renovation, and Critical Repairs to the Community Center, and the proposed renovation of MacArthur Park, with an investment of $400,000, are vital steps towards enhancing our local parks to better foster a welcoming environment for all and will undoubtedly revitalize our cherished community space, providing a safe and enjoyable environment for families and individuals alike. Additionally, the one-time investment of $90,000 in the Hoops After Dark Summer Season will provide our youth with an engaging and safe platform for recreation and skill-building.

Furthermore, the Cambodia Town Grand Entrance, supported with $1,000,000, will serve as a symbol of our dedication to celebrating the diversity that enriches our district. Similarly, the allocation of $500,000 for VIP Records Placemaking and Signage showcases the commitment to preserving our local cultural heritage. Additionally, the $25,000 increase for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade will undoubtedly contribute to the success of this significant event, celebrating the values of unity and equality that Dr. King stood for.

Finally, the allocation of $100,000 for a consultant to oversee the creation, management, and oversight of cultural centers will ensure an effective development of cultural centers that fosters artistic and cultural expression that reflects our community.

I am confident that these investments will contribute significantly to the growth, vibrancy, and well-being of our district.

Thank you for your attention to these matters. I urge you to approve the proposed budget and continue to support initiatives that make a meaningful difference in the lives of residents.

Sincerely,

Song Tan, MD
President
