To: Mayor and Members of the City Council
From: Councilmember Al Austin II, Eighth District
Subject: Fund Transfers for Long Beach Gives
RECOMMENDED ACTION:

Increase appropriations in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department by $ 500, offset by the Eighth Council District One -time District Priority Funds , transferred from the Citywide Activities Department, to provide donations of:

1. $500 to Long Be ach Gives to support upcoming fundraiser dedicated to empowering community non-profit organizations
Decrease appropriation in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department by $500, to offset a transfer to the City Manager Department.

BACKGROUND:

Long Beach Gives is a citywide, online fundraising campaign to raise awareness and inspire community giving for Long Beach nonprofits. Their goal is to inspire individuals and businesses in the Long Beach community to come together to make a difference in the exemplary work of the 200+ local, participating nonprofits. Over 900 peer fundraisers, made up of volunteers and members from the community, shared their stories and contributed to nonprofits' fundraising efforts. 109 restaura nts, retail establishments and businesses participated by sponsoring and spreading awareness.

FISCAL IMPACT:

This recommendation requests the City Manager to provide contributions of $500 to Long Beach Gives to support their causes as written above.

The appropriation increase of $500 in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department will be offset by a decrease of appropriation of the Eighth Council District One-time District Priority Funds in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department. The recommendation is anticipated to require a minimal level of staff hours beyond the normal budgeted scope of duties and is expected to have a minimal impact on existing City Council priorities.
