Subject: 2024 Proposed Budget for Animal Care Services

-EXTERNAL-

Monique De La Garza, CMC
City Clerk:

First of all, I tried to comment on the Budget digital comment card and got this message, “this form is currently not accepting responses.” The comment card link says, “ This survey will close at the end of the day on Friday, August 25.”

Why was it closed for comments when I tried at noon on 08/25/2023??

Please relay my concerns about the proposed 2024 Budget to my District 4 councilman, Daryl Supernaw, and to the other council persons and Mayor Richardson. I was dismayed to learn that the Animal Care Services is slotted to receive the same amount as it received in 2023, $400,000. Please take into account inflation, crowded kennels and more euthanasias of healthy animals and propose an increase in funds. The animal shelter is responsible for living beings and they need adequate staff and resources to care for them properly. Animals should be more of a priority in Long Beach.

Regards,
Donna Cottrell
