Subject: City budget increase for Pitchford Animal Shelter
-EXTERNAL-
Dear City Mayor, City Council Members and City Clerk,
I have been a resident and citizen of Long Beach for more than 30 years. Recently I was made aware that the budget for our Pitchford Animal Shelter will remain at $400,000 for next year despite an overwhelming increase in abandoned dogs. The shelters are barely functioning at beyond capacity.
Surrendered dogs are turned away and healthy dogs are routinely euthanized due to lack of space. I am heartbroken and am appealing to your sense of compassion for these poor animals who through no fault of their own are suffering the consequences of human actions or inactions. I am hopeful that you will dramatically increase their funding in order to respond to this crisis. Thank you in advance for your proactive response in dramatically increasing the needed funding to properly address this emergency.
Sincerely,
Elizabeth Guzman
