City of Long Beach
Working Together to Serve
Date: Tuesday, September 12, 2023
To: Honorable Mayor Richardson and Members of the City Council From: Daryl Supernaw, Councilmember, Fourth District
Subject: Transfer of Funds: Historical Society of Long Beach RECOMMENDATION:

Increase appropriations in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department by $400, offset by the Fourth Council District One-time District Priority Funds transferred from the Citywide Activities Department to provide a contribution to the Historical Society of Long Beach in support of their 27th annual Cemetery Tour; and, Decrease appropriations in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department by $400 to offset a transfer to the City Manager Department.

DISCUSSION:

On the last Saturday of October, the Historical Society of Long Beach hosts an exciting cemetery tour in some of the City’s oldest cemeteries. This one-of-a-kind living history celebration attracts 1,500 people and engages the support of city agencies, community, and regional leaders, and more than 120 volunteers. The all-ages event features graveside performances by actors, musical performances, historical displays, and presentations, a Dia de los Muertos and Japanese American History installation, and more, in a unique, park-like setting. This event helps the Historical Society of Long Beach present inclusive community history that creates greater understanding of our local area.

This matter has been reviewed by Budget Analyst Joe R. Guerrero on September 1, 2023.

FISCAL IMPACT:

This recommendation requests the City Manager to provide a contribution to the Historical Society of Long Beach in support of their 27 th annual Cemetery Tour . The total appropriation increase of $ 400 in the General Fund Group in the City Manag er Department will be offset by a decrease in appropriation of the Fourth Council District One-time District Priority Funds in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department. This recommendation is anticipated to require a minimal level of staff time beyond normal budgeted scope of duties and is expected to have minimal impact on existing City Council priorities.
