[email protected] Honorable Councilmembers--
On behalf of Bike Long Beach I offer my enthusiastic support for the Orange Ave Backbone project moving forward. This was a pillar of the most recent Bicycle Master Plan, and will add an important north-south biking facility in an area that desperately needs one. It will also help link many east-west routes, further enhancing the overall safety and connectivity of Long Beach's bikeway network. As the City progresses with design we urge you to have recurring opportunities for community outreach and engagement. Bike Long Beach will be happy to participate in such efforts as a vocal supporter.
Sincerely,
Adam Stephenson

[email protected] I cannot stress enough how much the bike plan for Orange needs to have meaningful protection in the sections through Signal Hill and around the 405. Sharrows aren't enough. Drivers aggressively squeeze past other cars in the stretch south of 32nd, in both directions, getting around cars turning onto 32nd and the 405 ramps. And drivers coming off the 405 S directly onto Orange are not going to have bikes top of mind. Especially turning left onto NB Orange, people are looking for gaps in traffic and gunning it when they see one. If bikes are going to share that space, they need real protection. 10/3/2023

[email protected] Hello, my name is John Moreland and I am on the Board of the California Heights Neighborhood Association. O range Avenue that cuts through our historic district in District 5 (Between Bixby and Wardlow Roads) is narrower than in other parts of the City. Previously, the application for grant funding from CalTrans depicted that the center turn lane would be removed to accommodate the bikeway. This could impact many of the residents that live on Orange Avenue. We request that if that approach is still being considered as part of the bikeway design, that the City hosts a meeting to inform our neighbors of the upcoming Orange Avenue design changes as part of this effort and before the construction phase.

Ryan Smith [email protected] Thank you for you're consideration of this comment. I am a 16-year resident of Long Beach and a regular user of bike, bus and personal vehicle transit. This project under consideration is important to all modes of transit. As a robust and well-planned bike route, this is integral to the city's transit ecosystem. As a regular user of our bike routes I can say we currently are in major need of prioritized and safe North/South bike infrastructure in mid LB. This bike routes needs to be safe and uncompromised along its entire run so that it can be used by all ages and hardness levels. This backbone project has the capacity to gel LB's bike infrastructure and should be considered with high intentionality and kept to a high standard. Many thanks. Ryan. 10/3/2023

[email protected] I would like to express my support for this agenda item. I live in North Long Beach and bike regularly as pa rt of my commute to work and to do errands like grocery shopping. However, a lot of our infrastructure is dangerous (like stroads, sharrows, and forcing cyclists to bike in the door zone), and I end up cutting back on bike trips and replacing them with bus trips because I'm afraid of my life. Many o f
those bus trips could be done via bike, like when I head downtown to see friends, eat at our wonderful restaurants, go to museums or the beach, etc.. There are good pockets of infrastructure in Long Beach, but there's still a way to go. Please continue improving our streets so they're safe for EVERYONE, not just people inside a car, and I strongly encourage the implementation of protected bike lanes.

Erin Hoops [email protected] Please approve so the Orange Ave Backbone Bikeway can move to the next phase. Orange Ave will be a v ital connector for Long Beach. We need to ensure this is a true 8-80 bikeway. Two sections are at risk for causing the project not to get as much ridership: the section through Signal Hill and the section over the 405. We want to make riding a bike a viable transportation option and to do this the entire project must be safe for everyone including kids and older adults. A bikeway is only as safe as its worst section. We have an opportunity to get this right, improve safety and decrease the need for cars - aka less traffic and fewer people trying to park. 10/3/2023

Authorize City Manager, or designee, to execute all documents necessary to amend Contract No. 33388 with Harley Ellis Devereaux (HED) Corporation, Inc., of Los Angeles, CA, for design services for the Belmont Beach and Aquatics Center Project, to increase the contract amount by $6,000,000, for a revised contract amount not to exceed $18,664,576, and extend the term of the contract to December 31, 2027, with an option to renew for two additional one-year periods, at the discretion of the City Manager. Lucy Johnson [email protected] What a disappointment! After 46+ years of what was originally a world-class venue known aroun d the world, and another 10+ years of working diligently obtain a worthy rebuild/replacement we are left with this less-than-adequate proposal. Not to mention that even with the best case timeline for this 3rd downward revision of the plans, per p. 37 of the staff presentation you see tonight, it will take a MINIMUM of another 39 months to as much as 46 months before this merely nice community pool will be open. Why not take the existing money available, put the shovels in the ground NOW and go as far as possible on the currently approved (Feb. 2021) project , while continually making concerted efforts to find the remaining funding needed

[email protected] My 3 kids learned to swim at the Belmont pool. This is the only public pool accessible to our family and th ousands of other Long Beach families. Voting against this pool is dangerous as thousands of children (and adults) may go without the most affordable place to learn to swim in a beach community. You are on notice regarding your culpability for preventable drowning deaths if you vote against this public pool.

Aaron Hovis [email protected] Long Beach is the aquatic capital of the world! It makes a lot of sense to have a world clas s aquatic center! We have Olympic level swimmers, divers and water polo athletes training and living in our great city. Build a facility that matches that level of athlete. Build a facility where world class events can be held. A facility that attracts the best coaches and teams to train. Build a facility that our community can be proud of and our youth can train. Let's stay relevant in the world of aquatics and back up the moniker of water sports capital! To me and my friends and family in this community the vote to approve this project is a no brainer. Nancy Cohick [email protected] The Belmont pool was a symbol of community for Long Beach. Community members of different ages si zes genders sports all utilize the pool throughout the year. We are hopeful that this will be a place for the future Olympics in 2028. Our city taxes have gone to support a temporary pool for many excessive years beyond that which the city planned. I hope you will vote yes and approve the new design. Our community deserves it!

Marcela Gallic [email protected] Please support the rebuilding of our beloved Belmont Pool! For many of us in the commun ity, it serves as a vital hub for recreation and exercise. The pool not only caters to the locals but is also used by many students during the summer, offering them a safe and low-cos t
environment for Recreation Swim.
Moreover, the scarcity of water recreation options in LB, despite being surrounded by the Ocean and Bays, is a pressing concern. Let's ensure the continuity of this invaluable resource for the well-being of our community and the countless families and children who benefit from this pool. Beth Bailey [email protected] Please, let's all agree to build the pool! Long Beach is known around the world as the aquati cs capital. Olympians are born and bred here. Let's honor our legacy and support future success of Long Beach that will come back to benefit all of us.
I'm off coaching at a pool outside of the LBC but wish I could be here instead. So do many others. This pool will strengthen our community, our schools, and the local economic cycle instead of people living here and spending and investing outside of Long Beach.
A source of pride and community/economic support is awaiting your approval. If you build it they will come! Sincerely,

Leslie Bryant [email protected] Please vote to bring our permanent pool back. Many of us located in the area use the Belmont Pool for recreation and exercise. In addition, it is full of kids from around the Community in the summer when LBUSD students are offered Recreation Swim at no cost. It's location in a relatively safe area draws children and families - putting the pool in another area like Downtown or North Long Beach does not provide the same safe environment, especially as the City grapples with dealing with the criminally unhoused. It's worth nothing that there are few other options for water Recreation in LB despite being surrounds by Ocean and Bays. Our Ocean and Bays are routinely given low scores for cleanliness and closed for contamination and other environmental pollutants. This is not the fault of the residents i n
the area who wish to swim for recreation, but it results in the pool often being the only option for swimming in the "Aquatic City"!

Adam Lucero [email protected] I completely support rebuilding the Belmont pool! I live in district 6 and swim in the temporary pool 4-5 times a week. It is a sacred space for me and many other people, we need it for our community. Rebuild the pool! 101023eCommentsReport.xlsx Printed: 10/10/23 4:00 P.M. eComments Report for City Council Meeting Agenda of October 10, 2023 Item Name E-mail Address Comment Received

I have fond memories of taking the bus from the Westside(Willow and Santa Fe corner) to the Belmont pool and swimming as a kid.
It was a positive experience interacting with all of the other kids from Long Beach and it was healthy exercise.
Please do not listen to the neighbors from across the street from the pool, whose only self interest is having a view of the ocean...that they NEVER had before!

Brian Cruz [email protected] Dear City Council, I am a born and raised Long Beach resident that grew up learning how to swim a nd was able to compete throughout high school at the Belmont Pool. I am a current resident of Long Beach and still in favor for the remaking of the Belmont Pool. The Belmont pool positively impacted my life from giving me skills to compete in college to gaining life long friends that I call family. Please vote for the Belmont pool construction. Thank you for your time

Susan Miller [email protected] More dollars being spent on more plans is not a financially prudent move by the City and Council. Many things are shaky on this entire project including being on liquefaction ground, Tideland Funding has been reduced dramatically. Where will the funds come to maintain this pool?

Anne Proffit [email protected] Following the publication of this proposal in your LB Post public relations (not news) outle t, there have been more comments in OPPOSITION than approval. That's because you continue to try and push this past the public who know more about the liquefaction of the area and the stupidity of the proposal. Since you don't realize that this project is adjacent to the Pacific, which is rising due to heated waters and climate change, let me advise you: DON'T DO THIS. The public will get back at you by removing every last one of you from office for incompetence. This is a stupid move; you never should have destroyed the pool that was there and the designs proffered serve only one purpose: to grease your bank accounts and cost us money. Just table the thing and plan community pools throughout the city. We already know how stupid you are; don't make it worse.

John Martoni [email protected] Scaled-back pool plan is underwhelming! Make better use of empty/under-utilized land in neighbor hood between pier & pool to raise $ & improve neighborhd. Termino/Ocean/Livingston too wide! Narrow streets to create sellable parcels of property-more tax base & revenue from selling new parcels while creating housing & making area more pedestrian-friendly/safer. Currently, streets so wide that they're difficult to cross. Cars travel down Ocean as if it were freeway- neighborhoods across Ocean cut off from area around pier/pool.
Jack-in-box, motel & Von's are underutilized parcels & can sustain more development. Get rid of surface parking, build out to property line (no setbacks) & build UP a few stories. Add condos/commercial to get tax revenue, housing & more vibrant street scene. An example to copy is Safeway on College Ave in Oakland, Used to be o1-story grocery store with large surface parking lot. Now has many shops/restaurants/condos. It's much nicer & adds vibrancy to neighborhd! 101023eCommentsReport.xlsx Printed: 10/10/23 4:00 P.M.
