From: Vice Mayor Roberto Uranga, 7th District
Subject: CD 7 Fund Transfers in Support of Cultural Heritage Events
RECOMMENDATION
Recommendation to increase appropriations in the Special Advertising and Promotion Fund Group in the City Manager Department by $4,300, offset by the Seventh Council District Special Advertising and Promotion Fund Group One-Time District Priority Funds transferred from the Citywide Activities Department, to support the following:
1. $2,150 to the Office of Special Events and Filming in support of the City of Long Beach Hispanic Heritage Month celebration; and
2. $2,150 to Rotary International District 5280 Charitable Foundation in support of Filipino American History Month programming; and
Decrease appropriations in the Special Advertising and Promotion Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department by $4,300 to offset transfers to the City Manager Department.
DISCUSSION
Through the above contributions, Vice Mayor Roberto Uranga seeks to support community events celebrating the history, culture, and contributions of Long Beach’s Latino and Filipino communities.
These events are appropriate for support through Special Advertising and Promotion funds because they are public-facing cultural celebrations that promote Long Beach as a diverse and welcoming destination, encourage attendance at community events, and highlight the City’s cultural identity to residents and visitors. Supporting these events also helps expand awareness of Long Beach programming and brings people together at activities that contribute to the City’s broader promotional and community engagement goals.
Hispanic Heritage Month: Hispanic Heritage Month recognizes the history, culture, and contributions of Latino communities in Long Beach and throughout the United States. Funding will support costs incurred by the Office of Special Events and Filming associated with the City’s Hispanic Heritage Month celebration and related programming.

Filipino American History Month: Filipino American History Month recognizes the history, achievements, and contributions of Filipino Americans, including the significant role the Filipino community has played in the history and cultural life of Long Beach and the greater Los Angeles region. Funding to Rotary International District 5280 Charitable Foundation will support Filipino American History Month programming and community activities.
This item has not yet received budget office review due to ensure timely allocation of funds.
FISCAL IMPACT
This recommendation requests the City Manager to provide $2,150 to the Office of Special Events and Filming in support of the City of Long Beach Hispanic Heritage Month celebration and $2,150 to Rotary International District 5280 Charitable Foundation in support of Filipino American History Month programming. The total appropriation increase of $4,300 in the Special Advertising and Promotion Fund Group in the City Manager Department will be offset by a decrease of appropriation of the Seventh Council District Special Advertising and Promotion Fund Group One-Time District Priority Funds in the Citywide Activities Department. The requested action is anticipated to require a minimal level of staff hours beyond the normal budgeted scope of duties and is expected to have minimal impact on existing City Council priorities. There is no local job impact associated with this recommendation.
SUGGESTED ACTION
Approve recommendation.
Respectfully submitted,
Roberto Uranga, Vice Mayor, Seventh District
