DISCUSSION
The 25th Annual Nuestra Imagen Community Latino Leadership Awards Gala, hosted by Centro CHA, will take place on Thursday, October 8, 2026, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at the Long Beach Grand Events Center. Held during Hispanic Heritage Month, the event celebrates Latino community leaders and local champions in public safety, labor, civic leadership, higher education, and business, while honoring the legacy of Carmen O. Perez and recognizing Vice Mayor Robert Uranga for his public service. Proceeds will support Centro CHA’s efforts to establish a permanent community space that expands employment, entrepreneurship, and immigration legal services, helping strengthen economic opportunity and support Long Beach families.
The 5th Annual City of Long Beach Filipino American History Month Celebration will take place on Saturday, October 17, 2026, from 3:00 to 9:00 PM at Long Beach Civic Center Plaza. Hosted Honorable Mayor and City Council
October 13, 2026
by the Long Beach Filipinx Action Network , the celebration will honor the history, culture, achievements, and contributions of Filipino Americans in Long Beach. The event will feature cultural performances, a community opening ceremony, a lighting ceremony, reception and dinner, and a Community Resource Fair and Marketplace, providing residents with opportunities to celebrate Filipino heritage, connect with local resources, and support community businesses and organizations.
The CLIMB Thanksgiving Dinner Giveaway will take place on November 21 at Lincoln Elementary School. The event will provide meals to local residents, helping address food insecurity and ensuring community members and families have access to a meal during the Thanksgiving season.
The Children’s Clinic will host its Family Health Beach Walk on Saturday, October 31, at Shoreline Aquatic Park. The event supports The Children’s Clinic’s efforts to provide essential medical, behavioral health, dental, and wellness services to nearly 40,000 children, adolescents, adults, and seniors throughout the greater Long Beach area. With approximately 175,000 patient visits annually and significant funding uncertainties threatening access to care, financial support will help sustain critical health services for local residents and families.
FISCAL IMPACT
Due to time constraints, no fiscal impact was conducted.
STATEMENT OF URGENCY
The requested fund transfer is urgent because the organizations receiving these sponsorship funds rely on this financial support to carry out programs and events that directly benefit Long Beach residents. Delaying approval of these funds would place unnecessary financial strain on neighborhood groups and community organizations. Timely approval will ensure these organizations receive the support they need without disruption and allow them to move forward with planned activities that provide important public benefits.
SUGGESTED ACTION
Approve recommendation.
Respectfully submitted,
Suely Saro, Councilmember, Sixth District
