13 Senate Bill 1279 (Gonzalez)—Speed Safety Systems
• Expands the City’s existing Speed Safety System,
authorized by AB 645, by allowing two additional
devices to be located along Pacific Coast Highway
• AB 645 prohibited any devices to be located on State
highways, including PCH
• SB 1279 addresses community feedback and follows
precedent from the City of Malibu
• PCH represents less than 1% of the City's arterial
roadway network but accounts for 15% of traffic
fatalities citywide
• The two additional devices on PCH will operate under
the same privacy and civil-penalty framework as the
existing Speed Safety System
