The Los Alamitos Municipal Code provides for the appointment of residents to City Boards and Commissions. City Council policy has determined interested parties, including incumbents, need to submit an application for consideration by the Council.
Vacancies have occurred on the Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Arts, Planning, and Traffic
Commissions. Availability Notices were posted at City facilities, on the City’s website and social media sites inviting residents to apply for these positions.
DISCUSSION
In November 2023, Staff began recruiting for the annual scheduled upcoming vacancies on City Commissions. New applicants have been invited to interview this evening and were provided interview questions in advance. Incumbents were advised interviews would not be necessary, but they were invited to participate in the meeting at their discretion. New applicants for Planning and Traffic Commissions were asked if they had an interest in any other Commissions. Joseph Hastie advised if he is not chosen for the Planning Commission, he is willing to serve on another Commission. The other new applicants advised they were only interested in their specified Commissions.
Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Arts Commission
(Appoint four full terms expiring December 2026 - Three Applicants) Incumbents William Bandak and Morgan Beck have reapplied. An application was not received from Commissioner Katelyn Duran. Former Commissioner Wendy Cope no longer resides in the City. New applicants include Richard Wright.
Three applications have been received for a total of four positions. New appointees would begin service in January 2024. Four appointees would have a three-year term ending December 2026.
