Hello Los Gatos Town Councilmembers,
With the unfortunate circumstance of a recent car break-in I was reminded once more of the value of a local Police Department. Without a doubt having a town Police Department adds to the community and overall sense of safety that it affords us. It's so much better than the alternatives and is something I've appreciated in my 29 year living in Los Gatos and also notice when I'm traveling and staying in other towns.

I appreciate seeing familiar uniformed faces around town and when chatting with them you understand what their local knowledge and sense of community means. Not something you would get with the rotations of a larger force.

I won't make this a long email but did want to take the time, as a town resident, to highlight how much value our local Police Department brings to residents such as myself.

Best regards,
Chris Diskin

Mayor Hudes, Vice Mayor Moore and Members of the Town Council, As you prepare to receive Chief Field’s Biannual Report to the Town Council, I wanted to share a quick note with some personal thoughts. I have likely the most unique perspective in our fine Town. As you know, I am a former Mayor and Councilmember, and I am a resident and business owner in Town. I am the Treasurer of the Los Gatos – Monte Sereno Police Foundation, and – what you may not know - I am a former member of the Los Gatos – Monte Sereno Police Department. I served with the Department for more than 12 years ad a “Designated Level 1 Reserve Police Officer.”
In my time on the Council and my many years on the Board of the Foundation, one message comes through loud and clear from our residents – there is significant support for, and value received from our fine Town Police Department. To be sure, there are always challenges, like (currently) recruiting; however, our citizens want and deserve to be served by people they recognize, know and respect. Professionalism and Community Policing have been, and continue to be, the hallmarks of our Department. Strong leadership, both from our Department command structure and from our Elected Leaders make a difference, and any move away from that would be met strong, negative push-back from our community.

I urge your continued support for the fine men and women who are so dedicated in their service to the residents of Los Gatos.

I also thank you for your work on behalf of our Town.

Steve
