[EXTERNAL SENDER]
Councilmembers,
I have questions about the work plan for the Complete Streets and Transportation Commission.
As background, one of the key findings of the 2025 Community Survey was "Improving traffic flow to reduce congestion was the top choice when residents were asked which item was most important for the Town to pursue.” It would seem that the Complete Streets and Transportation Commission would be the Commission which would work on this. A plan to reduce overall daily congestion and improve traffic flow in response to residents’ concerns should be prioritized. One work plan item partially addresses “reducing traffic," but only concerning cut-through traffic, not the daily congestion and low level-of-service that we are seeing. Worse, there is another work plan item — to reduce speed limits — which could lead to worsened traffic flow and increased congestion. Where is the work on improving traffic flow? Is it a goal of the work on the town wide Traffic Model? Why not address the community’s most urgent and important concerns more directly? Regards,
Linda Swenberg
