RECOMMENDATION: Adopt amendments to Council Policy 5-02 Flag Policy to establish a formal framework permitting the display of commemorative flags as an exercise of government speech, when initiated by a
Councilmember and approved by resolution of the Town Council.

Dear Council Members:
Today you will vote on a flag policy and the raising of the pride flag. I am in support of both.
Please stand up for diversity and inclusion by voting in favor of both.
As a licensed mental health professional of 40 years I have witnessed first hand the difficulty that many gay and trans youngsters have with accepting themselves in an environment that at times can be unwelcoming and even hostile. Sometimes living becomes unbearably painful when feeling so rejected by one’s family, friends and community. It is well documented the high rate of suicidal ideation and attempted suicides in this population.
I implore each and every council member to stand with these young people and vote in favor of the flag policy and raising of the pride flag.
