TOWN OF LOS GATOS

TOWN COUNCIL SELECTION

COMMITTEE AGENDA
REPORT
MEETING DATE: 05/18/2026
ITEM NO: 1
DATE: May 18, 2026
TO: Town Council Selection Committee
FROM: Chris Constantin, Town Manager
SUBJECT: Interview Applicants for the Youth Commission and Make Recommendations for the Town Council Appointments
RECOMMENDATION: Recommend appointments to the Town Council as stated by the Town Clerk or designee and instruct the preparation of a report containing the recommendations for Town Council consideration at the June 2, 2026, meeting of the Town Council.

BACKGROUND:

The purpose of the Youth Commission is to foster and encourage civic and neighborhood pride and create a sense of identity through knowledge, understanding, and increased involvement in the Town's present and future municipal affairs. The Youth Commission shall generally be responsible for studying various interests and issues of concern to the youth in Los Gatos and advise the Town Council on such matters.

Applicants to the Youth Commission may be any student entering grades 8 through 12 in the fall, and either a resident of the incorporated limits of the Town of Los Gatos or have residency in an unincorporated area of the County of Santa Clara that has a Los Gatos mailing address.

Applicants must complete the appropriate application and submit it during the recruitment period by the established deadline. Current Commissioners may seek reappointment upon the expiration of their current term. Reappointment to a new term is not automatic, and those Commissioners seeking reappointment must submit an application and be interviewed.

On May 20, 2025, the Town Council adopted a resolution amending the Youth Commission Enabling Resolution to reduce the total number of members from 20 to 19 and to modify the term length from two years to one year. These changes were made to better align with the academic calendar and the availability of student participants.
