It's great to finally bring some art to the MBAC that will be visible to the public! This should beautify the neighborhood and highlight more awareness for the center.

The proposed murals are really ugly. How about doing a mural that features scenic Manhattan Beach landmarks (there are many) or Manhattan Beach events (beach volleyball, surfing, MB Grand Prix, Hometown Fair, etc.).
Maybe add a sunset to the mural? We have been having such amazing sunsets with incredible colors, that it would be cool to replicate one if possible? X X X X X Like option 2 but not water so didn’t vote for either.

Vibrant colors of Option A would make it more visible and noticeable than Option B .
I am concerned, however, that with the mural on the 11th street wall, facing south, not many people would see it. There just isn't a lot of traffic along 11th street. If the idea is to make the Art Center noticeable and increase visits and sponsorship == I'm not sure a wall which few will see is the right solution

The black and white geometric painting on the building is not appealing. Neither of these murals is a particularly good fit with that. I hope the residents who face the art center and this wall have a big say. 😕

Suggest the mural be on a smaller scale since homes are across the street. I’m not sure I’d like to look at a large mural across the street from my home.

Because Leadership Manhattan Beach is the sponsor and will be fundraising for this mural, I believe the mural needs to reflect on life in, or history of, Manhattan Beach. Leadership Manhattan Beach is about people and service and learning about the community. The LMB mural would be better if it is an image that the viewer immediately relates specifically to Manhattan Beach. The plants in Option B overpower the ocean and the pier. Just my humble opinion, but, it looks like the artist had one thing in mind and then thought, "Oops, better include the beach scene to get selected." There are other organizations in the City that promote art and have budgets for it. Let them sponsor these more general images, if they choose.
X X X Not a huge fan of either mural, but would love some art there.

I lived in MB for 29 years and 9 of those were at 1351 11th street. I currently pass this wall every day on the way to play pickleball at MB Heights and have exhibited at the MB Art Center.
LOVE option B and the way it works with the environment and the existing black and white mural.

It’s not that I don’t want a mural there- but could we have an option that is a bit more neutral colored? Both seem awfully bright. Given the black & white painting at the top of the building, it makes it very chaotic looking in my opinion. Thank you for listening.

Stop imposing these murals on people.
Keep it classy. Manhattan Beach is already beautiful and the art center looks perfectly nice already, it does not need a mural to beautify it
The south side of the wall is not even seen by that many people mostly dog walkers and and people exercising.
A better location would be on the inside of the wall facing North so at least it would be seen by people coming into the Art Center.
X X X X I don’t like the green cactus in this mural!

don't want murals on any residential street
- an eyesore for people living across the street
- will require maintenance/repair/replacement as it weathers

Neither option is in character with the neighborhood. Option A looks like gang graffiti seen in Italy and in Los Angeles along the railroad tracks. It is garish and completely at odds with a nice residential area.
Option B is just overwhelming and doesn't add anything to the old library and now Arts Center .
I feel a much better approach is to significantly upgrade the landscaping around the parking lot and arts center. These type painting displays will draw more graffiti to the neighborhood just like happened along the Los Angeles freeways. Those murals were constantly under graffiti attack.

X X X X I prefer no mural at all but if you must then B X X X X not clear we need a mural, but I vastly prefer the style of B over A.
Option B is nice, but not here. It looks garish and cluttered. I live on 8th. I definitely wouldn’t want to live across from that. Put it on the side of the junior high or some other place.
X X
I think there should be a different mural that reflects the flora and fauna of Manhattan beach.such as sand dune natives plants, dolphins and the parrots. i think the design should incorporate the street level wall , where the side walk is. of the wall too.
X X X Thank you for doing this! It will be a huge improvement. Both options are wonderful.
X X
Option B looks nice. Option A too bright/garish I’d prefer no mural to that. Consider rank order survey next time.
X X X Either Option is a HUGE improvement! Terrific project.

I live directly across the street from the proposed murals at 1544 11th St. Please do not put up these murals. I find them far too loud for our community and does not reflect the understated, elegant style we’d like to maintain in our community. I feel any mural invites graffiti and degrades the aesthetics of our community. Please, please, do not have these done, as a resident who will be one of the most impacted from these murals being put up. My neighbors at 1550 11th told us about these proposed murals and are as offended by these as I am, and sincerely hope you take our feedback as the residents most impacted by these designs into consideration.

Both murals look generic, the colors dark. We live in MB where is the sun and light and blues.
What are you trying to convey with the murals? Yes they seems generic and do not convey anything to me.
Less generic might be the beach scene featuring the manhattan beach flower
X X X X X X
I live right across the street from the proposed installation. Both of these mural designs clash significantly with the black and white artwork already on the building. If a mural is placed on the wall, can this black and white installation be removed? I prefer a different option-one more reflective of the neighborhood and subtler if a mural needs to be placed there. Alternatively, can the artwork be placed on the other side of the wall or on a wall that is on the commercial corridor on Manhattan Beach Blvd? A better option might be to plant the hillside with native plants and beautify the area naturally.
Option A appears to be very bright and may attract graffiti; Option B is more subtle.
HOWEVER: The floral images in B are very tropical and would prefer something more beach-
like in addition to the iconic pier.

I think it will be a lovely addition to the center! In my opinion, mural A is pretty but quite bold especially because this is a neighborhood as well. Looking forward to see the finished project! I also would be interested in participating in painting the mural!
