Proclamation
Congress and the President of the United States have designated May 15th as Peace Officers' Memorial Day, and the week in which May 15 falls as National Police Week; and
there are more than 900,000 law enforcement officers serving in communities across the United States, including the dedicated members of the Manhattan Beach Police Department who play an essential role in safeguarding the rights and freedoms of its residents; and
it is important that all citizens know and understand the duties, responsibilities, hazards, and sacrifices of their law enforcement agency, and that members of our police department recognize their duty to serve the people by safeguarding life and property, by protecting them against violence or disorder, and by protecting the innocent against deception and the weak against oppression and intimidation; and the men and women of the Manhattan Beach Police Department, who by their faithful and loyal devotion to their responsibilities have rendered a dedicated service to their communities and, in doing so, have established for themselves an enviable and enduring reputation for preserving the rights and security of all citizens.

Now, Therefore, Be It Resolved that I, Hildy Stern, Mayor of the City of Manhattan Beach, California, on behalf of the City Council and the residents of Manhattan Beach, do hereby proclaim May 15-21, 2022 as
National Police Week
in honor of law enforcement officers past and present who, through their courageous deeds, have made the ultimate sacrifice through their loyal service to their community.
