Proclamation
the month of October has been recognized as National Arts and Humanities Month by thousands of arts and cultural organizations, communities, and states across the country, as well as by the White House and Congress for more than two decades; and
the arts and humanities embody much of the accumulated wisdom, intellect and imagination of humankind; and
the arts and humanities enhance and enrich the lives of every American; and
the arts and humanities play a unique role in the lives of our families, our communities and our country; and
the National Arts and Humanities Month has four goals: to create a national, state and local focus on the arts and humanities through the media; to encourage the participation of individuals, as well as arts humanities and other organizations nationwide; to provide an opportunity for federal, state and local business, government and civic leaders to declare their support for the arts and humanities; to establish a highly visible vehicle for raising public awareness about the arts and humanities.
Now, Therefore, Be It Resolved that I, Richard Montgomery, Mayor of the City of Manhattan Beach, California, on behalf of the City Council and the residents of Manhattan Beach, do hereby proclaim the month of October 2023, as
National Arts and Humanities Month
and call upon our citizens to celebrate and promote the arts and culture in our nation and to specifically encourage greater participation by those said citizens in taking action for the arts and humanities in their towns and cities.
Dated this 3
rd
day of October, 2023.
