Proclamation
National Bicycle Safety Month was first declared in May of 1956; and the bicycle is a viable and environmentally sound form of transportation and an excellent form of recreation; and
the City of Manhattan Beach encourages everyone to explore the joys of bicycling during the month of May through educational programs, commuting events, or just getting out and going for a ride; and
the United States Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration urges bicyclists and motorists to share our roadways by obeying the traffic laws and respecting each other’s rights; and
the City of Manhattan Beach has an EBike Safety and Awareness Campaign, “Ride Safe, Ride Ready,” to address the growing safety concerns around the dangers of ebikes; and
the City of Manhattan Beach supports the National Bicycle Safety Month created to remind the public to put “safety first.”

Now, Therefore, Be It Resolved that I, Joe Franklin, Mayor of the City of Manhattan Beach, California, on behalf of the City Council and the residents of Manhattan Beach, do hereby proclaim the month of May 2024 as
