Proclamation
Whereas. Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacitic Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month is a month to celebrate and par tribute to the contributions of Asian/Pacific Americans to American histort, societ and culture; and
Merers, during the month of Mat we celebrate and recognize the estimated 25.2 million Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander residents of the United States and their rast contributions to the country; and
Mierers, Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Herilage Month originated in a congressional bill in June of 1977; and
Mierers. on March 28, 1979, Presiden Carter issued Presidential Proclamation 1650, proclaiming the week beginning on Mat 1, 1979 as Asian/Pacific American Heritage Week; and
Mereness
on Mar 21, 2009, President ()bama issued Presidential Proclamation 8869 proclaiming May 2009 as Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month; and Mierers, Asian Americans, Nate Havanan, and Pactic Islanders comprise mang etlicies and languages, and their many achievements embodt the American expenence; and Wherers. Asian Americans, Native Havanan, and Pacilic Islanders men and women are leaders in all aspects of'American life and contributing to the United States' economs; culture, education, politics, arts, literature, science and technologt and sports, and Whereces, during AANHPI Heritage Month we acknowledge the additional determination, hard work, and perseverance, AANHPI must put fort to be heard and seen and that these additional eftors are a result of inequitable institutional and ststemic mustices; and (Mherers, the City ol Manhattan Beach takes pride in its growing population of Asian American, Native Havalan, and Pacilic Islander citizens who have enriched our communiț and are instrumental i our Cit's fiture success.
