Certificate of Commendation
Whereas, Michael Lang has dedicated three and a half years of service to the City of Manhattan Beach in the Fire Department as Fire Chief from June 2021 to December 2021; and Whereas, Chief Lang earned his Bachelor's of Science in Occupational Studies from California State University, c Long Beach and obtained a certilicate in Executive Leadership from the University of Southern California; and
Whereas, during his tenure with the City of Manhattan Beach, Chiel Lang brought decades of experience and a steadfast commitment to modernizing operations and enhancing public salety; and Whereas, his leadership fostered stronger community partnerships and strengthened relationships with regional safety partners, leaving a lasting impact on both the community and the Fire Department; and Whereas, Chief Lang enhanced emergency response capabilities by establishing a second rescue ambulance for daily stalling, ensuring greater readiness and support for the community; and Whereas, he strengthened the Fire Prevention Burcau and Emergency Preparedness functions by hiring a Fire Marshal, Senior Fire Inspector, Fire Inspector, and a full-time Emergency Preparedness Administrator; and Whereas,
he lurther expanded stalling by hiring a full-time Senior Management Analyst and oversecing three firelighter hiring processes, resulting in the addition of thirteen new firelighters; and Whereas, Chief Lang expanded internal promotional opportunities, fostering an environment for career advancement and succession planning by implementing promotional examinations resulting in appointments of one Deputy Fire Chiel, two Division Chiefs, four Fire Captain Paramedics, and four Engineer Paramedics; and Whereas, Chiel Lang's contributions to the City of Manhattan Beach Fire Department include finalizing the Fire Station 2 rebuild project, replacing an engine pumper, securing lunding for a future quintuple combination pumper, establishing the department's first Deputy Fire Chiel; and Whereas, the City Council wishes to commend Fire Chiel Michael Lang for his dedication to local public
administration and his significant contribution to both the City of Manhallan Beach and the community.
Now, Therefore, Be it Resolved, What the Ciry Council, on behalf of the residents and citizens of the City of Manhattan Beach, Calilornia, does hereby award this commendation to Fire Chief Michad Lang
upon his departure from and for his outstanding contributions to the City of Manhattan Beach.
