Micrens. erert rear, National Senior Citizens Das is celebrated on August 2l' and recognizes semors who have spent their lives contributing to societs and have impacted evertone's lives for the better; and
Wherers. President Ronald Reagan took the initiative to honor seniors in 1988 when he signed Proclamation 5847 and marked August 21" as the dar seniors will be celebrated.
Reagan proclaimed, "For all ther have achieved throughout lite and for all they continue to accomplish, we owe oker citizens our thanks and a heartfelt salute. We can best demonstrate our gratitude and esteem, by making sure that our communities are good places in which to mature and grow older-places in which older people can participate to the fullest and can find the encouragement, acceptance, assistance, and services they need to continue to lead lives of independence and dignity: "; and Whereas the 2025 theme for National Senior Citizens Day is, "Empowering Elderly Voices for an Inclusive Future." This theme emphasizes the importance of listening to and including seniors in societ; ensuring their rights and needs are respected, and promoting their active participation. The theme also encourages communities to empower and involve semors, aiming to create a societ that values and respects older Wherers. in Manhattan Beach, seniors are actire in the community as well as continuing to have a strong presence in the workforce; and
Wherers. the senior rears are a time of continued growth and opportunity for older Americans.
Now. Therefore. Be I Rescued tat 1, David Lesser, Mayor of the City of Manhattan Beach, California, on behalf of the City Council and the residents of Manhattan Beach, do hereb! proclaim August 21, 2025, as
National Senior Citizens Day.
I encomrage all citizens to recognize the ralue and contributions of senior citizens and to create supportive communities where ther can thrive with access to the necessar resources for independent and dignitied lives.
