Proclamation
breast cancer is the most common type of cancer among women in the world and second leading cause of cancer death among women in the United States; and more than 1 in 8 women and 1 in 726 men in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetimes. In 2025, an estimated 316,950 women and 2,800 men will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer; and
October is nationally recognized as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we honor those battling breast cancer, along with the families, researchers, and health care providers whose hard work gives hope to those living with breast cancer; and death rates from breast cancer have been declining, and this change is believed to be the result of early detection and improved treatment; and mammography is recognized as the single most effective method of detecting breast changes that may be cancer, long before physical symptoms can be seen or felt; and we recognize the breast cancer survivors among us and honor their faith and courage.

Over 4 million American breast cancer survivors today give us hope of a better future for those affected by breast cancer.

Now, Therefore, Be It Resolved that I, David Lesser, Mayor of the City of Manhattan Beach, California, on behalf of the City Council and the residents of Manhattan Beach, do hereby proclaim October 2025, as
