Proclamation
National Diabetes Month is an annual event each November to boost awareness about the risk factors, symptoms, and types of diabetes; and over the last 20 years, our Nation has seen a significant rise in the number of adults diagnosed with diabetes - a chronic condition that can lead to heart disease, kidney disease, vision loss, and other serious health problems; and Type 1 Diabetes is an autoimmune condition where the body attacks insulin-producing cells in the pancreas, often diagnosed in childhood; and Type 2 Diabetes is the most common form, where the body becomes resistant to insulin. This type is also associated with lifestyle factors and tends to develop in adults, through cases in younger people are increasing; and Gestational Diabetes, develops during pregnancy and can pose health risks for both mother and child; and
in the United States, over 37 million people have diabetes and nearly 96 million at risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes and more young Americans are also living with Type 2 Diabetes than ever before, putting them at risk of developing serious health problems later in life; and
an increase in community awareness of risk factors and symptoms related to diabetes can improve the likelihood that people with, or at risk for, diabetes will get the attention thewy need before suffering the devastating complications.
Now, Therefore, Be It Resolved that I, David Lesser, Mayor of the City of Manhattan Beach, California , on behalf of the City Council and the residents of Manhattan Beach, do hereby proclaim the month of November, 2025 as
National Diabetes Month
and I encourage all citizens to join the effort to confront, fight and most importantly, change the future of this deadly disease..
