The City of Manhattan Beach has established a policy and practice of conducting next-day building inspections for the residential and business construction community to ensure housing and business development will not be hampered by administrative delay. This extra help is critically needed to ensure that these inspections occur to clear a daily backlog when required inspections are in excess of the work that regular staff members can perform. Mr. Atkisson will be assigned to perform inspections at construction sites on an as-needed basis. This is one of the numerous duties normally required of the Senior Building Inspector classification. Mr. Atkisson will not be assigned any of the other required duties of the Senior Building Inspector. Mr. Atkisson is uniquely qualified to perform this work based upon his prior experience working as a Senior Building Inspector for the City of Manhattan Beach. Mr. Atkisson’s services are critically needed by the City for a limited duration. He is needed to assist with the work in excess of what existing staff can perform only during the period while the City recruits for and hires permanent building inspectors. The City expects that it will have sufficient permanent staff in place by no later than December 31, 2026.
