Proclamation
the issue of peace embraces the deepest hopes of all people and remains humanity’s guiding inspiration; and
in 1981 the United Nations proclaimed that the International Day of Peace be devoted to commemorating and strengthening the ideals of peace both within and among all nations and peoples; and
the United Nations expanded the observance of the International Day of Peace in 2001 to include the call for a day of global ceasefire and non -violence, and invited all nations and people to honor a cessation of hostilities for the duration of the Day; and
there is growing support within our City for the observance of the International Day of Peace, which affirms a vision of our world at peace, and fosters cooperation between individuals, organizations and nations; and
global crises impel all citizens to work toward converting humanity’s noblest aspirations for world peace into a practical reality of a culture of peace for future generations; and
the 2026 Peace Day Theme “Invest in Peace - For Everyone, Everywhere, Every Day,” honors the everyday architects of peace; people driving local action, laying the groundwork for stability, and building a lasting peace from the ground up.
Now, Therefore, Be It Resolved that I, Joe Franklin, Mayor of the City of Manhattan Beach, California , on behalf of the City Council and the residents of Manhattan Beach, do hereby proclaim the day of September 21, 2026 as
International Day of Peace
and urge all citizens to recognize this day to help establish a global day of peace in our homes, our communities and between nations.
Dated this 15
